Krista and Shawn’s Connecticut River Valley Inn Wedding

Krista and Shawn’s wedding day was on one of the most beautiful September afternoons. The sun was just peeking through some clouds, and the temperature was perfect. Like most weddings this year, they chose to skip getting ready photos, so I met them just before their first look.

Some of my favorite wedding portraits happen when my couples totally trust me, and are willing to take a bit of a walk to find the best light. Although the gardens around the Connecticut River Valley Inn are stunning, the sunlight was a little harsh, so Krista and Shawn were willing to follow me all the way to the back of the property to a spot where the lighting was perfect. I remember Shawn took a step back while I took the portraits of Krista and he said “wow this light is sick!” I couldn’t agree more.

We meandered our way back to the Inn with plenty of time for them to hang out for a bit before the ceremony began. They only had their closest family attend, and it was the perfect size.

After the ceremony, everyone got to enjoy some drinks and hors d’oeuvres from Emily’s Catering Group. We took some family portraits and just a few more of Krista and Shawn right as the sun was going down. Then everyone enjoyed the rest of the night with some more food, music, and family time.

Congratulations Krista and Shawn, your wedding was so special!

I know first hand how awkward it can feel to be in front of the camera (umm…what do I do with my hands?), and know just what to do to make you feel at ease. With a mix of gentle guiding and prompts you don’t just get great photos, you also have a lot of fun.
